Protein shakes are a great way to get in your daily protein. In today’s fast-paced society we do not want to lose sight of maintaining a nutritious diet. A quick, easy, grab-and-go fix is a protein shake! When picking a protein powder it’s important to choose 100% whey protein that is less than 200 calories, 20-30 gm protein and less than 5 gm of sugar per serving.
Protein powders can be simply mixed with water or, for added flavor and protein, with skim or 1% milk or unsweetened soy or almond milk. They can be enjoyed at room temperature or chilled. Add ice to your protein shake and blend to transform your shake into a wonderful smoothie consistency! Even further, adding spices, sugar-free Jell-O mixes and extracts can make for a very tasty shake. Try this Key Lime Smoothie recipe we’ve adapted from Dave Fouts’ Shakin’ it Up* for a delicious spring treat!
