As a resident of Mather Hospital, you will have the distinction of working with, and being mentored by, a remarkable group of board-certified physicians. Our faculty includes nationally recognized clinicians and researchers, with vast levels of experience teaching and guiding students in their journey to becoming licensed physicians. All of our faculty are board certified, some in in multiple specialties, bringing a well-rounded knowledge to each rotation they supervise. The physicians listed below are considered the core faculty of the residency program. All of these physicians hold academic appointments at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Health.
Joshua Kern, MD is the Program Director for the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program at Mather Hospital and Assistant Professor of Radiology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Dr. Kern also serves as the Chair of the Department of Radiology at Mather Hospital. He completed his diagnostic radiology residency at North Shore University Hospital and body imaging fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Kern spent several years in private practice on Long Island prior to joining Northwell in 2013 where he was the medical director of two outpatient imaging centers before taking on the roles as Program Director and Radiology Department Chair at Mather. Dr. Kern’s clinical interests include body CT/MRI/US. His non-clinical radiology interests include leadership, practice development and operational efficiency.
Jill Bergson, MD is the Associate Program Director for the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program at Mather Hospital and Assistant Clinical Professor in Radiology at the Zucker School of Medicine. Dr. Bergson earned her medical degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University. She completed her radiology residency at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, followed by a body Imaging fellowship at Yale New Haven Hospital. Dr. Bergson joined Northwell in 2017 and has been a member of the teaching faculty for the radiology residency program at Mather since Northwell assumed responsibility. As Associate Program Director, Dr. Bergson works closely with Program Director, Dr. Josh Kern, on the administration and daily operation of the residency program. In her free time, she enjoys being active with her husband and two sons.
Mohammad Bilal, MD is a core faculty member and the Sub Specialty Education Coordinator of Interventional Radiology. Dr. Bilal earned his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and completed a Transitional Year internship at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham, MA. He completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center where he served as junior and senior Chief Resident. He concluded his training with a Fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 2004. Dr. Bilal has been a medical staff member at Mather Hospital since 2004 and is currently the Medical Director of Vascular and Interventional Radiology. Dr. Bilal is also the Program Director for the Integrated Interventional Radiology Residency Program at Mather Hospital, since its inception in 2017. He is a core member of the Committee for Promoting Physician Excellence and has been involved in Medical Staff Leadership at the hospital since 2015, most recently as the President of the Medical Staff at Mather Hospital.
Dr. Bilal specializes in all aspects of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, with particular expertise in Oncologic Interventions, Women’s Health, and Spine Intervention. Personally, he shares that he is a huge Batman fan, and in that mirrored capacity, as a highly skilled individual and through dedicated training, wishes to be a hero to all his patients. “I wish to provide them the best patient experience and make a meaningful impact in their health care.” Dr. Bilal, finds being a caregiver as an Interventional Radiologist highly rewarding, allowing him to be innovative and compassionate. He enjoys local and global traveling, dining, watching movies, and trying new foods.
Joseph Carrucciu, MD is a core faculty member the Sub Specialty Education Coordinator of Breast Imaging. A graduate of SUNY Upstate Medical Center, he completed his intern year in Internal Medicine at Stony Brook and both a Diagnostic Radiology residency and Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology fellowship at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York. Dr. Carrucciu held the positions of the Chief of Interventional Service and the Assistant Program Director of the Radiology Residency at Stony Brook Medicine before joining Mather Hospital. A recipient of the 2012 Long Island Healthcare Heroes award, he founded the Mather Hospital Interventional Service and the Fortunato Breast Health Center, where he has served as the Co-Medical Director since 1994. In his spare time he can be found in the garden or at an antiques auction.
Lan Chan, MD is a faculty member in the subdivision of Breast Imaging and an assistant professor in Radiology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Dr. Chan earned his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University and completed a Transitional Year internship at Mather Hospital. He then completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Tufts Medical Center and a fellowship in Breast Imaging at Northwestern Medical Center before returning to join the staff at Mather Hospital. Dr. Chan specializes in all aspects of Breast Imaging with particular expertise in breast interventional procedures. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking and reading.
Michael J. Dayan, MD, MBA is a core faculty member in the subdivision of Interventional Radiology and an Assistant Clinical Professor in Radiology at the Zucker School of Medicine. Dr. Dayan earned his medical degree from the accelerated BA-MD program at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed an internship in general surgery and residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey. He then completed his fellowship in Vascular and lnterventional Radiology at NYP Weill Cornell Medical College and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City before joining the staff at Mather Hospital. Dr. Dayan also holds an MBA in Technology Commercialization with interest in healthcare operations and analytics. His clinical expertise includes all aspects of diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, and interventional oncology. Dr. Dayan performs a wide variety of interventional procedures including, but not limited to, locoregional therapies to treat hepatic malignancies (Y-90, TACE, ablation procedures to treat acute and chronic occlusions of the deep venous system, catheter directed treatment of pulmonary emboli, hemorrhoid embolization, prostate embolization, uterine fibroid embolization, chronic back pain therapy, and biliary stone extraction etc. His research interests focus on quality assurance, lean six sigma, medical finance, and device development. In addition to clinical and research activities, Dr. Dayan is an active teacher of residents and medical students.
Christopher Folterman, MD, MS earned his medical degree from St. George’s University. He completed his surgical internship at Mount Sinai Ichan School of Medicine in New York, NY. He went on to his Diagnostic Radiology residency at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ. After residency, Chris completed a Neuroradiology fellowship at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. During his time in fellowship, Chris worked with the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute to provide patients with diagnostic orbital imaging. He joined the Northwell team in 2023.
Karin A. Herrmann, MD is a core faculty member in the Division of Diagnostic Radiology and in the Subdivision of Abdominal and Body Imaging.
Dr. Herrmann earned her medical degree from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) Medical School in Munich, Germany. She completed her surgical internship at the University Hospital Klinikum Grosshadern, LMU, followed by her residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the Institute of Clinical Radiology at LMU. She then completed a fellowship in Body MRI Imaging and a fellowship in Oncologic imaging and PET/CT at the University Hospital Klinikum Grosshadern, LMU.
After serving as Section Chief in the division of MRI at University Hospital Klinikum Grosshadern, Dr. Herrmann moved to Cleveland, Ohio, becoming a faculty at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and attending radiologist in Body Imaging at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
In her academic career, Dr. Herrmann completed a doctoral thesis on “Radiation dose reduction with pulsed fluoroscopy” and a professorial thesis on “MR imaging in Crohn’s disease” and was appointed Associate Professor of Radiology at the LMU Munich. Dr. Herrmann continued her academic career as Visiting Professor and Assistant Professor of Medical Sciences at Case Western Reserve University, (CWRU) assuming a leading role in establishing a novel pre-clinical curriculum in radiologic-anatomic education. She was promoted to Associate Professor of Radiology at CWRU.
Dr. Herrmann has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles as author or co-author, held numerous scientific and educational oral presentations at national and international meetings and wrote 5 book chapters in radiology. She is the recipient of several “Teacher of the Year” awards, both in the Department of Radiology at University Hospitals of Cleveland/CWRU and at Northwell Health, Mather Hospital, The Wei-Shen Chin Award for Medical Student Education, and the Distinguished Educator Award at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
Dr. Herrmann’s research and clinical interests are focused on Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the liver and MRI of the bowel. Dr. Herrmann is passionate about traveling, foreign languages, food, hiking and classical music.
Peter Lee, MD earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. He completed his Transitional Year internship at Yale New Haven Hospital – Saint Raphael Campus, residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Northwell Health, and fellowship in Neuroradiology at Columbia University Medical Center.
Kenny Lien, MD is a core faculty member and an Assistant Clinical Professor in Radiology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Health. Dr. Lien holds a master’s degree in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University and worked as a Research Associate at Cedars Sinai Medical Center prior to earning his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. He completed his Transitional Year at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Philadelphia, a residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Stony Brook Medicine and a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology from NYU.
Evan Mair, MD earned his medical degree from Boston University, residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Boston Medical Center, and fellowship in Body Imaging at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. Dr. Mair is the former head of Body Imaging at South Nassau Communities Hospital and was an Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Radiology at Stony Brook Medical Center and NYU Langone Medical Center before rejoining his former training colleagues and the Northwell Health system in 2021. His clinical interests include emergency radiology, volumetric reconstructions, CT colonography, pelvic floor imaging, enterography, and genitourinary imaging.
Dr. Michelle Price is the Medical Director of the Fortunato Breast Health Center at Mather Hospital. She is a board-certified radiologist, having completed medical school, internship, radiology residency, and fellowship training in breast imaging at New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center. She has considerable experience and expertise with mammography, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and all types of breast needle biopsies.
As a leader at the Fortunato Breast Health Center since 2002, Dr. Price is committed to improving the health of the members of the Mather Hospital community. She is passionate about providing the absolute best possible patient experience for women undergoing breast imaging and procedures. Dr. Price is particularly proud of the comprehensive nurse navigation program for patients who are diagnosed with breast cancer, providing significant support during the treatment journey.
As an Assistant Professor in Radiology for the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and core faculty member, Dr. Price is instrumental in the education and training of residents in Mather Hospital’s Diagnostic Radiology residency program. She takes great pride in her role of shaping the next generation of radiologists.
Dr Price relates, “At the Fortunato Breast Health Center, we always treat our patients as we would our own family members. We are constantly looking for new ways to raise the bar in providing expert care with the utmost of compassion.”
Gregory Timm, MD is a core faculty member of the Mather residency program. Dr. Timm earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa. He completed a transitional year in Family Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics followed by a residency in Diagnostic Radiology at SUNY Stony Brook. After residency, Dr. Timm completed a Musculoskeletal fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery, an affiliate of New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical College. He oversees musculoskeletal education for the Mather residency program in addition to being involved with musculoskeletal education for other Northwell radiology residency programs and musculoskeletal fellowship program. Dr. Timm is an Assistant Professor of the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and former volunteer fire fighter. He enjoys spending his free time with his wife and three children.
Kimberly Wilson serves as the Training Program Manager for the Mather Hospital Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program. A graduate of Dowling college and a proud career spanning 35 years in radiology, she brings extensive knowledge and passion to her role. Kimberly has been instrumental in launching and managing GME programs, including Diagnostic Radiology and Integrated Interventional Radiology, at one of Northwell’s community hospitals. Her leadership skills, combined with her expertise in GME, have contributed to the success of these programs.
Notably, Kimberly has received multiple service excellence awards from administration and has been recognized as an Employee Engagement Champion. She holds certification from the National Board for Certification Training Administrators of Graduate Medical Education since 2018.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Kimberly cherishes her family. She has been married for 30 years to her husband, John, and they have three children. Her love for family, boating, and dancing underscores her positive outlook on life.
