PORT JEFFERSON, NY – Mather Hospital has achieved the Level 1 Gold designation for Emergency Department geriatric care from the American College of Emergency Physicians, the only hospital in Suffolk County to achieve this status.
“Led by a remarkable team of interdisciplinary leaders…Mather Hospital’s accreditation signals to the public that your institution is focused on the highest standards of care for your communities’ older adults,” the American College of Emergency Physicians wrote in announcing the designation.
Level One defines an Emergency Department (ED) with policies, guidelines, procedures, and staff (both within the ED and throughout the institution) providing a coherent system of care targeting and measuring specific ED outcomes for older adults that form an overall elevation in ED operations and transitions of care both to and from the ED, all coordinated for the improved care of older adults.
“I congratulate all our team members for this outstanding recognition of the care we provide to the older adults in our community,” said Kevin McGeachy, Mather Hospital Executive Director. “As with all our patients, we are dedicated to providing the highest quality clinical care, showing compassion and respect, and treating each patient in the manner we would wish for our loved ones.”
“This was truly a team effort and something they should all be so proud of,” said Tara Matz, RN, CNO/Vice President for Nursing at Mather. “Another great recognition that supports the incredible work being done at Mather.”
