PORT JEFFERSON — Enjoy an evening of cocktails, dinner, dancing and a silent auction when Mather Hospital honors James Mangan, President, MJM Plumbing & Mechanical Inc., and orthopedic surgeon Brian J. McGinley, MD, of the Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Group, Port Jefferson at its Harvest Moon Gala on Friday, September 13, 2024 at the Meadow Club in Port Jefferson Station. The honorees will receive the 2024 Theodore Roosevelt Award.

The Theodore Roosevelt awards are administered through the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council and are given for extraordinary commitment to health care and volunteerism.

Brian J. McGinley, MD attended Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and continued his surgical internship and orthopedic surgical residency at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City. McGinley’s training included a fellowship at the Insall Scott Kelly Orthopedic Institute in NYC, where he received additional experience in sports medicine assisting the New York Knicks team physician, as well as in total joint replacement with one of the founders of total knee replacements, John Insall, MD.

In 1998, Dr. McGinley joined Long Island Bone & Joint, now part of the Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Group. He has practiced in the Port Jefferson area for 25 years and has an active practice that includes caring for many local high school and college athletes. As a member of the development team for computer assisted surgery, Dr. McGinley has traveled the United States and Europe lecturing and meeting with engineers. He received a patent for developing an instrument used in knee replacement surgery. He has lectured for the Arthritis Foundation on total joint replacements and was the PGA physician for the U.S. Open at Bethpage in 2002. Dr. McGinley also performs high-precision, robotic-assisted partial and total knee replacements using the CORI system, which provides robotic assistance through an advanced computer program that relays precise information about the knee to a handheld robotic tool that assists the surgeon.

Dr. McGinley served as Three Village Lacrosse League President, board member and coach for more than 15 years; a Ward Melville volunteer orthopedic surgery consultant since 2001; a Blanca’s House volunteer orthopedic surgeon for four missions to Guayaquil, Ecuador performing more than 80 total knee replacement surgeries; helped raise funds to complete an operating room in Blanca’s House clinic in Guayaquil, Ecuador; and was 2007-2009 Co-Chair of the Mather/St Charles Political Action Committee.

As president of MJM Plumbing & Mechanical Inc. in Rocky Point, NY, James Mangan oversees operations with a strong background in construction, value engineering, subcontracting, and more. His leadership and expertise contribute significantly to the company’s success and influence in the industry.

Outside of his professional role, Jim has been deeply involved in community initiatives. He and his late wife Marie were instrumental in starting an annual Rocky Point St. Patrick’s Day parade party. Following Marie’s passing in 2010 from breast cancer, Jim and his community began raising funds in her memory to support the Fortunato Breast Health Center at Mather Hospital. Through the years MJM Plumbing, its employees, family, and friends, have raised more than $125,000 for Mather Hospital’s Fortunato Breast Health Center.

Jim has expressed profound gratitude to Mather Hospital for the exceptional care and support Marie received during her treatment. This experience has motivated him to give back to the hospital and community.
