Mather earns recertification as a Magnet® HospitalMather Hospital has once again earned the prestigious Magnet® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center(ANCC).

The Magnet Recognition Program® recognizes health care organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. Developed by ANCC, Magnet is the leading source of successful nursing practices and strategies worldwide. Only 471 hospitals worldwide have earned the Magnet designation.

“I would like to thank the entire Mather staff for their dedication and excellence in patient care outcomes. This is truly an amazing achievement,” said Marie Mulligan, PhD, RN, who is vice president for nursing and chief nursing officer at Mather. “Along with our re-designation we received an exemplar for recognition of our nurses who are highly immersed in evidence-based practice and research.”

The announcement came via a call from the ANCC in a room filled with nurses, administration and other staff. Mather first earned Magnet recognition in 2013.

“Congratulations to Mather Hospital and CNO Dr. Marie Mulligan. I am very proud of our dedicated Nursing staff and of everyone at Mather who made this prestigious and well-deserved achievement possible,” said Mather President Kenneth Roberts. “This brings us another step closer to our goal of being the best community hospital in New York State.”

Magnet-Recognition-Logo-CMYK-jpgResearch demonstrates that Magnet® recognition provides specific benefits to health care organizations and their communities, such as:

Improved patient experience

Better patient outcomes

Higher job satisfaction among nurses

To achieve Magnet® recognition, organizations must pass a rigorous and lengthy process that demands widespread participation from leadership and staff. This process includes an electronic application, written documentation, an on-site visit, and a review by the Commission on Magnet® Recognition.
